Description: Yaesu FT-277R UHF Portable 5 watt Ham Radio This rugged UHF radio was used by me and my family for several years on vacations and camping trips (and it shows!). It's a very rugged radio with lots of power and great audio. The display has a large scratch on the front and the antenna is slightly bent (all see in the pictures). The battery is shot as it's the original and will keep the power on for receiving, but the battery dies when trying to transmit (it does transmit with external power). The radio is listed as being IPX7 waterproof (protection against immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes) and the case appears to still be intact. They also feature big audio output (800 mW) and unmatched protection against the elements! They are protected against water ingress to IPX7 specifications; submersion for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 3 feet. Their 16-key touchpad includes direct keyboard frequency entry and direct DTMF input, along with quick one-touch access to Yaesu's exciting and fun WiRES-II VoIP Internet Linking system. FT-277R handhelds are supplied with a long-life 1400 mAh Ni-MH Battery Pack for extended operating time during search-and-rescue or public-service event operations. Their design includes Yaesu's exclusive power saving circuit to ensure longer operating time than most other handhelds with comparable batteries. The FT-277R receiver's extended-frequency range is 420-470 MHz, covering many public service and government channels. The transceiver's 200 memories may be partitioned into as many as 10 memory groups. Alpha-numeric labeling is available on all memories. To prevent an unauthorized person from using your FT-277R, you may engage a security password that must be keyed-in prior to operation. These transceivers feature an EAI (Emergency Automatic ID). A function ideal for search-and-rescue work, the EAI feature can be commanded to turn on so as to identify your FT-277R, and engage your PTT and microphone, remotely in an emergency situation. So if you don't check in during a search, help can be dispatched, with the automatic TX function allowing others to perform direction finding. Aside from the usual CTCSS and DCS Encode/Decode features you've come to know, FT-277R transceivers include a "Split Tone" capability that allows you to encode a CTCSS tone, and Decode DCS, or vice-versa.
