Description: This is an extremely fine World War II French Legion of Honor in the grade of Chevalier in its presentation case that remains in excellent condition. It is constructed of genuine silver with near perfect red, white, blue, and green enamelwork. There are two small very small insignificant chips to the white enamel at the tip of one arm on the obverse side and one on the reverse. The blue enameled ring, green enameled wreath and the central medallion on both sides are near flawless with a minute chip to the blue on the reverse. The central medallion on both sides is attractively age toned. The medal is suspended from its original crimson ribbon which is without fraying and with excellent color. It retains the dual vertical pin assembly at the top. The medal is housed in its untitled maroon leatherette presentation case. The interior of the has a white satin liner pad that is marked, ‘SAEYS & Co, 28 rue de Lombard, BRUXELLES, Fiu 12.21.17’. The lower pad upon which the medal rests is of plush maroon velvet. A push button spring catch holds the case tightly closed. Despite its very minor flaws, it remains a fine-looking example of France’s highest decoration for combat valor during the Second World War.9084
