Description: Antique original World War Two United States Army air corps USAAC U.S. army air forces USAAF WWII officers / pilots hat ‘ crusher’ cap Size 7 1/4 ( on the inner label ) marked on the inner crown ‘ FORT MASON EXCHANGE FORT MASON SAN FRANCISCO CALIF ‘ the liner is embossed “ EZ CUSHION “ ( this EZ brand liner was exclusively used on crusher hats) a real ‘ crusher ‘ made with a flexible cloth inner band And has a ultra thin two ply flexible leather visor ( as soft as a slipper !) Good , well worn condition This looks like it was likely worn in actual combat ! typical wear from heavy use A Real 50 mission crush ! the sweat band is still soft and pliable, but shows sweat stains and has been period hand Restitched to the cap body - the visor flexible, and shows exhibits signs of period Re stitching along the edges - There is one very minor , barely noticeable 1/4 inch TEAR on the right side , ( see the photos ) Likely turn from sticking the cap in the pocket of an A2 flight jacket ! the OD green cap body is in fair / good shape , but has worn areas from contact with the brass eagle insignia wing tips one or two tiny holes above the insignia the chin strap has slight damage to the right ‘ slider’ ( see the photos ) a well used bomber pilots uniform cap - It’s not perfect , but then again ,.. it’s not $500.00 either ! Don’t pass it up ! Probably purchased directly the fort mason post exchange- during WWII Fort mason served as the embarkation point for millions of U.S. Army troops as they headed off to war in the Pacific — Against the backdrop of glistening bay waters and the Golden Gate Bridge,
