The rifles were originally 8mm Mauser for the M1889 model but with the M1890 upgrades they went with the 7.65mm caliber rifle. Approximately 280,000 rifles were manufactured. The bayonets were originally had long blades but they were cut down. Normally the fuller does not meet the tip on the original blades. Shortened bayonets have the fuller meeting the tip, this meets the tip. Overall, this bayonet is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition. The press catch is functional and has average spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely attached to the bayonet. They have light impact marks, scrapes and scattered light pitting. The rivets securely fasten the wood grip panels to the tang. They have light oxidation. The two grips have light handling marks, compressions and draglines, most notably near the pommel. The panels have started to darken with age. The blade has been cut down. The spine, fullers and sides have light impact marks, scrapes and some discoloration. The blade edge has a few small nicks and dings. It is hard to tell if the blade edge has been sharpened due to the scrapes on the side. The tip is intact and comes to a semi-sharp straight point. The finish is in the white. The lower end of the spine has the crescent moon over a sunburst. The left side of the guard has the serial number "5320". The top of the guard is marked with a six-point star and the letter "H". The right side pommel is marked "AS.FA". The metal scabbard is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition. The frog stud is securely fastened to the body. The mouth, body and finial have handling marks. There are light impact marks and scrapes on the body. The coloring is in the white with some scattered discoloration. The knife slides in and out easily. There are no visible markings. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your WWI Turkish bayonet collection, or a bayonet collection in general.
