Description: On Certainty by Ludwig Wittgenstein. Edited by G.E. M. Anscombe and G. H. von Wright. Translated by Denis Paul and G. E. M. Anscombe. Published by J. & J. Harper Editions, New York, 1969. 8vo. vii, 91pp. First edition. This seventh volume of the Wittgenstein corpus to be published contains notes written at the end of his life, on the problems of knowledge and certainty. The German text is reproduced side by side (facing pages) with the English translation. Very good book in very good dust jacket. Black cloth covered boards with bronze-gilt stamped lettering and graphics on spine. Boards have several light scuffs. Edges at head and tail of board spine and lower board edges are scuffed, fore-edge corners are rubbed through. Previous owner's small label on front paste down and name in ink on FFEP. Margin notes, underlines and passages circled. Text block is snug. Tan dust jacket, spine is sunned. Folds are creased and scuffed. Head of jacket spine has closed vertical tears along front and back spine gutters with an old tape repair on the reverse. Similar but slightly smaller closed tears at tail of jacket spine. Both head and tail of jacket spine have loss from rubs on the corners, as do all fore-edge corners. Bookseller's label in upper right corner of inside flap. Please use close-up options for best inspection and in support of condition descriptions. Additional photos available at your request.
