Description: William Hunt Diederich brass matchbook cover with an Art Deco etched design of a figure with a greyhound or whippet dog and floral motifs. It measures 1 5/8 inches long, 1 1/8 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick. It's in great condition with only minor staining and comes with it's period original matchbox (empty). Diederich was a member of the prominent Hunt family of Boston, attended school in Switzerland and came to America around 1900 to live with his maternal grandfather, the artist William Morris Hunt. He exhibited at the Whitney Studio Club (forerunner of the Whitney Museum of American Art), at New York galleries, and in 1922 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Architectural League for design and craftsmanship.
