Description: The Detroit Red Wings were the powerhouse team in the NHL from the late 1940s to the mid-1950s, winning 4 Stanley Cups in 6 years from 1950-55, and that success was largely due to one of the highest scoring lines in hockey history, the fabled "Production Line". Successful lines in the old six team NHL usually consisted of a small, speedy, slick passing center between skilled wingers, all of whom would routinely be roughed up by the opposition's rugged defensemen. The Red Wings' "Production Line" reversed the trend, with a slow but steady aging center in Sid Abel playing between two fast, talented, and tough wingers, "Mr. Hockey" Gordie Howe and the equally fearsome “Terrible Teddy" Ted Lindsay. The line placed first, second, and third in the league in scoring in the 1947-48 season, the only time in NHL history such a feat was accomplished, and the "Production Line" continued their torrid pace for the better part of a decade. The trio not only scored at a prolific level, but punished their opponents physically as well. The penalties of elbowing and kneeing were introduced into the NHL rulebook to curb Ted Lindsay, whose physicality exacted a fearsome toll on opponents over the course of a season. Lindsay was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966, and Lindsay's number "7" was retired by the Red Wings in 1991, hoisted to the rafters to hang alongside those of his line-mates, Abel and Howe. In the 1990s, the NHL introduced their "heritage" collection of hockey sweaters that paid homage to the early days of the game, including the classic Red Wings away jersey. This Vintage 1990s STALL & DEAN NHL HERITAGE DETROIT RED WINGS TED LINDSAY HOCKEY SWEATER is in very good condition, with a small moth hole in the upper right chest, the top right shoulder, and the lower right back, a spot of brownish soiling at the front left hem, some light scattered dark spot soiling at front and back, the size/made in Canada tag having been removed from below the maker's label at the inside neck, and with some light overall age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the sweater is in fine shape, with no other damage to the elegant "away" white and red knit wool construction. Most interestingly, it boasts the classic Red Wings chain-stitched on red felt logo patch sewn at the chest, sports the traditional number "7" of "Terrible Teddy" Ted Lindsay sewn in matching red felt at back, and features the original mid to late 1990s "ATHLETIC GOODS / Stall & Dean / SEATTLE, WA." maker's label at the inside neck and "NHL / HERITAGE" collection label at the lower left front. It bears a ribbed red collar, exhibits the familiar crew neck design, and carries sewn elbow reinforcements. A fine example of a rare, original Vintage 1990s STALL & DEAN NHL HERITAGE DETROIT RED WINGS TED LINDSAY HOCKEY SWEATER.
