Description: VINTAGE 1946 BOOK MISTRESS MASHAM'S REPOSE BY T.H. WHITE. A classic of British Children's Literature. First Edition. A 10 year old orphan, Maria, lives in the country on a falling down estate with distant relatives. While exploring the wilds of the neglected garden she discovers a lost colony of Lilliputians. Wonderful black and white line drawings illustrate the book. Hidden within the story about a neglected girl's experiences with tiny people who are descendants of Lilliputians brought to England by Gulliver (after his travels) are ideas about dictatorships and overriding government. A classic story of the 1940s. Children love Maria's adventures and misadventures. Adults appreciate the underlying message. Condition: Good. Cloth board cover has light rubbing on edges and some soil. Inside page has past owner's signature. Very slight moisture stain on bottom of most pages. Otherwise, the pages area all in good condition without marks, tears, or mends and the binding is still strong. Slight discoloration due to age is evident on the pages. This is typical of this era when war-time measures restricted the type of paper, etc. Probably a First Edition.
