Bought by my late mother in the 2000s A sophisticated necklace made of a sleek row of dainty rich cherry red opaque rubies hand faceted into beads,each 2-3 mm,small separately but a luxurious style statement together. Mined from the earth in Longido,Tanzania,the gems are handcut in Jaipur,India. I'm having a clear out of new,unworn and vintage as my jewellery collecting got out of hand. The colourful deep cherry/plum red real Rubies are not transparent, that's why they are so affordable,but they are beautiful.They are cut into many faceted abacus beads,each a lovely true ruby colour but not identical as they are natural. These are real Rubies,but less costly because they are Opaque,not transparent.They are carefully selected from the Longido mine in Tanzania and cut in Jaipur,the world centre of gemstone cutting and jewellery making.As these are natural earth mined Rubies,not top grade transparent fine jewellery Rubies,they are not perfect and it is part of their character that there are a very few cloudy areas,and one or two darker spots.These are not defects,they are part of the character of these Opaque'raw'Rubies,because of their history in the earth.They are normal for this grade of Ruby and do not affect the strength or beauty of the item.In fact the Rubies in this necklace are among the best of their grade and have been carefully selected and colour matched.
