Description: Felloe Frame Saw with Mortise and Tenon Joints, Very Rare Nicely carved, mortise and tenon joined felloe saw. This is a type of 4-sided frame saw with central saw blade. Felloe saws were nearly square in their shape, whereas veneer saws were more rectangular. Felloe saws and veneer saws were worked by two men and were used horizontally rather than vertically (as pit saws were). Felloe saws were used by wheelwrights and chairmakers to cut curves. The wood frame measures 27 inches by 17.5 inches at the outside edges. The frame has beveled edges as seen in the pictures. The saw blade is 18.75 inches long inside of the frame. There appears to be some type of any lettering or carving in the wood at one end. It cannot be discerned. Shown in one of the pictures. Probably early 1800's. Hard to find. Saw is complete and condition as pictured.
