Description: An unusual set of linen hand-embroidered figural cocktail napkins, tea napkins and table mat. Could also be used as a breakfast set. The table mat features a man and woman harvesting a fruit tree. Appears to be a cherry tree. They are both dressed in shades of pink and white. He up the ladder in a tree, she below. The scene is the same on either end of the mat. The linen is off-white flax linen and is finished with a hem stitched border and tiny dark pink embroidered flowers with green stems and needle lace flourishes. There are two matching embroidered napkins, one man, one woman. This type of embroidery is rare, unusual and very detailed. Examine carefully. The couples outfits, the tree, the ladder, the basket of picked fruit. The intricate detail and tiny embroidered flowers on the edges of the pieces are reminiscent of Baroness Rapisardi. Also, the quality and hand feel of the off-white linen is very much like Rapisardi pieces. These are likely Italian-made by embroiderers influenced by Rapisardi. These pieces are truly works of art. The set is in very, very good condition. No holes or stains. Hand-laundered and pressed. The mat measures approx. 22 1/2" X 15 1/2". The napkins measure approx. 11" X 10". Folded into 5" X 5 1/2". Please view all photos for the embroidery detail. See my listing of similar set of 4 napkins of same embroidery style and colors. See all my napkin listings.
