Description: Auction Description: Victorian Era Frame & Painting Print Era: 1865-1890 "Foggy Evening Forest Scene" Ornate Victorian Frame Original with Restoration Added Period Print This auction is for (1) one Victorian Ornate Frame with Period Print of a Painting on Canvas depicting a “Foggy Evening Forest Scene. The scene is a warm, weather wooded area with a path leading up the crest of a small hill and down into a valley. Many artists painted what they saw at the time and obviously there were no lighted paths in the Victorian period unless it was on the grounds around homes of the wealthy. Specifications: Frame: 18.5” x 20.0” Painting: 10.0” x 12.0” Opening Condition: Good to Very good considering its age. Back side is normal in roughhewn condition and coloration is a brown painted surface. The wire is new and of course I restored the frame to its original appearance with accents in a goldish bronze, amber, green, dark gold, red, and the picture matting is a dark mallard green. Those not familiar with these types of frames I would like to explain some of the process. These are actually frames within a frame. The makers started with a smaller frame, made another frame just large enough to fit around the smaller frame and continue to add larger frames in many cases to the point they became heavy and more decorative. This frame is actually I believe to be just 3 frames and possibly 4 for the mitered work is precise, so they fit perfectly together. The chain lacing, on the inner portion of the frame and all of the raised swirls, beading, leaves, fruit, and other raised areas are actually a sculptor’s material similar to Plaster of Paris. Many of the sections were missing when I obtained the frame so I reversed molded the void areas with molds I made of the existing areas still intact. The process takes several days to make each section, but in order to bring back this wonderful frame I felt it was worth my expertise in restoring it to its original elegance. PLEASE OBSERVE ALL PICTURES FOR THEY ARE PART OFTHE DESCRIPTION AND DO NOT HESITATE EMAILING WITH ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE ABOUT THIS ITEM. ALL CIRCA DATES ARE APPROXIMATE BUT ARE ACCURATE WITHIN a FEW YEARS. ART WORK IN ITSELF IS DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE EXACT AGE UNLESS SIGNED WITH DATE WHICH WAS RARE. SOMETIMES ARTISTS WORKED ON ONE PAINTING OR OBJECT UNTIL FINISHED AND OTHER TIMES THE SET FOR MONTHS AND WERE WORKED ON AS TIME ALLOWED. SINCE ARTISTS SOMETIMES LIVED LONG LIVES DATES ALWAYS VARIED FROM ONE TO ANOTHER. I took several pictures in different locations with and without flash to try a give the best picture idea of the item. It is a very nice frame to go with period furniture and was a part of my extensive collection of Victorian antique items displayed throughout my homes over the years. I am selling all items that can be shipped and all furniture will be sold as local pickup at my home location. I will professionally pack this item and will promptly ship via USPS. This item will be insured for your investment protection. I do not end sales before the end date. I am aware not all people love the Victorian era items, but they are in many cases one of a kind for mass production is not a process that works for these type of items for there is a lot of drying time for the molded items and paint. Thank you in advance for considering purchasing from me on Ebay. Check out my other items! Be sure to add me to your favorites list!
