Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Here we have an attractive early pitcher. This baluster shape pitcher is very rare and dates to circa 1840. The green mocha decoration is nicely formed on a wide white band and repeated on both sides of the pitcher. This baluster form is very attractive, narrowing to a rounded foot on the base and gracefully narrowing to the rim on top. The pitcher was made on a potter’s wheel where the shape of the pitcher was formed. The pitcher is thin walled and you can feel where the potters fingers formed the inside wall. After the clay dried, the pitcher was put back on a wheel and slip was applied then the mocha decorations were added. The soft handle strap was then pushed onto the pitcher, a notch was cut out and the spout was attached to the pitcher. At this point the pitcher was placed in a kiln and fired. This is an attractive smaller size pitcher measuring only 4 ¾” in height. The pitcher survives in its original mint condition with no damage or repairs. This would be an important piece of mocha decorated yellow ware for any collector.
