TYLECODON TUBEROSUS CUTTINGS TRUE MINIATURE SUCCULENT

Description: I JUST ATTACHED THE JULY FLOWERS. THESE ARE REALLY UNBELIEVABLE AS THE ROOTS ARE PENCIL ERASER SIZE. YET EACH STEM PUTS OUT A HUGE MULTI-BRANCHED FLOWER CLUSTER WHILE OTHERWISE DORMANT. The Tylecodons are especially nice. The plants offered here are among the tiniest succulents. Stem cuttings will slowly cluster and will make beautiful miniature bonsai. Most growth occurs from winter thru early summer. It can be grown in the ground in rock gardens in frost-free areas, but pots are best due to its small size. TYLECODON TUBEROSUS comes from Africa. It gives no particular cultural problems and stems root easily. It flowers abundantly with typical small bell-shaped flowers. THIS IS A TOTALLY OBSCURE SPECIES THAT I GOT YEARS (!) AGO FROM THE NOTED BOTANIST STEVE HAMMER. I WAS VISITING HIS UNBELIEVABLE GREENHOUSES AND FOUND THIS PLANT HIDDEN AMONG HIS TYLECODON COMPREHENSIVE COLLECTION. I HAVE ONLY SOLD A FEW PLANTS OVER THE YEARS AS IT DOES NOT APPEAL TO MOST GROWERS. IT WILL NOT GROW BIG. THE TINY TUBERS ARE THE SIZE OF PENCIL ERASERS. THE PLANT IS TOTALLY DORMANT FROM RIGHT AFTER FLOWERING IN MAY UNTIL EARLY WINTER SO DOES NOT NEED WATER OR CARE. I have found that plants like Tylecodon are prone to bolting and growing tall skinny ugly stems when grown in regular pots with too much water. When they are grown with very limited water in hanging pots as shown here, they grow slowly and stay very compact and wild looking. Makes a beautiful tiny bonsai when grown with an appropriate rocky setting and the tubers half exposed.
