Description: Turkish Ottoman Tophane Asyut terracotta pottery vessel An exceptional Tophane (or Asyut) red pottery vessel. Ottoman Turkey, late 19th century. Has a bulbous body and a flared neck, decorated with stiff leaves and beads. The inside base of the neck has a filter which is pottery and part of the vessel. The Tophane district in Istanbul, Turkey was known for its high quality pottery made from deep red agate polished clay by traditional pipe makers. There are a few flakes missing from the bottom rim. This vessel has a wonderful patina.
