Tudor, the sibling brand of Rolex - Founded in 1926 by Hans Wilsdorf, the creator of Rolex, Tudor was initially created as a more affordable alternative to Rolex watches while still maintaining a high level of quality and craftsmanship. Over the years, Tudor has established itself as a respected and innovative brand in its own right, developing iconic models like the Tudor Snow flake Sub, Tudor Black Bay, Pelagos, and Heritage Chrono. Many Tudor watches feature in-house movements, such as the MT5602 in the Black Bay GMT and the MT5621 in the Pelagos, showcasing the brand’s commitment to horological excellence. This version is fitted in a Tudor Geneva signed gold plated steel case. The dial colour was originally satin silver and now carrying heavy patina, satin silver was a popular colour for dress watches produced in this era (as seen with the contemporary Patek Philippe models) The silver against the gold offers just the right amount of personality for a dress watch. This model is quite versatile in that it can be comfortably worn in casual or a black-tie settings. This example captures the extravagance of master case making in the style of this rectangle case. What makes this piece special is the dial patina which reflects vintage charm and goes exceptionally well with the rest of the gold theme. The Original Dial: Many rectangular watches of this period carried dials with ‘art-deco’ influences and this can be seen in the design. Square and rectangular watch dials present certain challenges to dial designers, here the approach raised gold gilt Arabic numerals on a silvered dial. Subsidiary seconds dial at ‘6’ o clock in good order. The dial carries the original gold gilt ‘Lance’ hands which are in good condition. The dial is signed ‘Tudor’ below ‘12’ with Swiss Made at the very bottom. An outer chapter ring featuring minute indices. The dial has marks tarnishing and fading commensurate with age and wear. Please observe photographs. Original Case: The case measures 20mm across, excluding the crown, and 37mm including the lugs. Looks larger on the wrist due to its rectangle style shape with unique down turned elongated lugs. Case has surface hairline scratches associated with base metals commensurate with age and wear. Lugs are in good solid condition with no previous repairs. Original Crown/Winder: Unsigned crown in good working order. Original Movement: Signed Rolex Geneve (under dial). The movement fitted to this watch is the original 17 Jewelled movement used in most Rolex hand-wound rectangular watches of this period. As can be seen, it is in very clean condition having been serviced by a vintage Rolex specialist watchmaker with no issues to report - The movement is running accurately. Original Crystal: Good condition Original Case Back Cover Outer: Snap back steel case is bearing serial number 275*** dating the watch to 1944 on the Tudor register along with the watch reference number 831. Has surface hairline scratches associated with base metals commensurate with age and wear. Please see photos. Original Case Back Cover Inner: Inside the case back is signed Tudor Geneva Switzerland. The case, in common with the majority of Tudor cases of this period. Strap Band/Buckle: New aftermarket unauthentic leather strap recently fitted.
