Description: 7 ads for Thom McAn 1951 1965 This is a group of 7 full-page magazine advertisements for Thom McAn Shoes. All are on sheets measuring approximately 10.5x13.5 inches each. The group includes duplicates of 2 of the ads, so there are 5 different varieties, with each of these shown in the accompanying photos. The ad from 1956 is an unusual one, being a testimonial from the "famous showman," John Ringling North of circus fame. He provides the whole text of this ad, in the form of a report on his experience wearing Thom McAn shoes for a 30-day test period. His blurb begins: For a good part of my life I have kicked out shoeseven the most expensive oneson muddy, dusty, cinder-covered circus lots. Ever since my teen years I have spent most of my waking hours around the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. It came to seem that my high mortality rate for shoes was one of the sacrifices I had to make on the altar of my devotion to the Greatest Show on Earth. . . . . . . . if they were good enough for a country boy like my lion shootin friend, Columnist Bob Ruark, they were good enough for me. . . . Etc. The years in which the ads were published are: 1951 -- 1 1952 -- 2, plus 1 duplicate 1956 -- 1 1965 -- 1, plus 1 duplicate _gsrx_vers_1680 (GS 9.8.3 (1680))
