Description: Maker and age: On the reverse of this lovely bread and butter plate is the red backstamp number 33 of Theodore Haviland, one of the great Limoges firms at the turn of the last century. According to the third edition of the Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston, this mark was in use between 1903 and 1925. The red retailer's mark of Burley & Co, Chicago's renowned department store, also appears. It closed in 1923, making that the latest this plate could have been produced. Design: The plate is beautifully hand painted, in keeping with the exceptionally high quality that made the company's porcelain so famous and so coveted. The pretty design - called Schleiger 350E - features a band of delicate pink roses and green leaves accented with elegant gold daubs. Size: The plate is 6 1/4 inches wide and weighs 4.8 ounces. Condition: It's in overall excellent condition with no marks, nicks, cracks, discoloration, stains, crazing or repairs. There is a small chip on the edge - it's shown in the photos with the penny.
