Description: This is among a large number of playbills currently being listed from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... This is a rare October 1960 "Playgoer" playbill from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the MEREDITH WILLSON musical comedy "THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN" at the Shubert Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (The production would open November 3rd, 1960 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City for a run of 532 performances.) ..... The musical starred the Tony Award winning TAMMY GRIMES as Titanic survivor "Molly Brown" and featured HARVE PRESNELL, CAMERON PRUD'HOMME, MONY DALMES, EDITH MEISER, MITCHELL GREGG, JACK HARROLD, JOSEPH SIROLA, ROD ROGERS, CHRISTOPHER HEWETT and PATRICIA KELLY ..... CREDITS: Book by RICHARD MORRIS; Music and Lyrics by MEREDITH WILLSON ("The Music Man", "Here's Love"); Sets designed by OLIVER SMITH; Costumes designed by MILES WHITE; Choreographed by PETER GENNARO; Directed by DORE SCHARY; Produced by THE THEATRE GUILD in association with DORE SCHARY ..... DETAILS: The twenty page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of the two leading actors, but no cast photos ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "Extra! Extra!" and "Up Where the Joke's Goin' On" which were cut out-of-town and "Colorado, My Home" which was cut after the Broadway opening ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a light crease across the middle and minor edge wear, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
