The organization received the drawing directly from Catlin. Catlin's method should explained here. He always draws with colored pencils. Sometimes graphite pencil, ink, pastel, and marker is also used. Before he begins a drawing, he affixes the drawing paper to both sides of a piece of corrogated cardboard, most likely to give himself a hard surface on which to draw. The paper cannot be removed from the cardboard. The frame you see is part of the drawing, drawn by Catlin. On front of every drawing are Catlin's initials and the drawing date. The back holds much information, including the exact car depicted, the exact measurements of the drawing, the materials used and the date of the drawing. He name and prison number are always printed. Sometimes this information is printed several times on the back. Steven David Catlin (born ca. 1942) is a convicted American serial killer who murdered is mother and two of his wives between 1976 until 1984. Sentenced to death in 1990, he is currently housed in San Quentin State Prison. Catlin's live was made into a 1993 movie "The Kern County Murders," starring Harry Hamlin. Catlin's fascination with cars led to a job with the pit crew of racer Glendon Emery, based in Fresno, California. During his time in San Quentin, Catlin began drawing cars.
