These coins circulated alongside their silver counterparts valued at 2, 4 and 8 reals (also available in our store). The obverse of the coin shows the effigy of the Spanish monarch, Charles IV with a lettering that reads: ‘CAROLUS·IIII· D·G HISP REX·’.The Reverse depicts a ‘Don Pelayo’ cross with castles and lions set in all angles, all within a larger decorative wreath.
