This guide has been designed as a companion to the Southern Pacific Painting and Lettering Guide for locomotive and passenger cars published by the SPH&TS in 2013. This title illustrates how Southern Pacific (and subsidiaries) owned freight cars were painted and lettered over the years, as well as Pacific Motor Trucking equipment used in TOFC (Trailer-on-Flatcar) service and rail cars from wholly-owned rail car leasing companies Evergreen and Golden West. Extensive coverage of painting and lettering practices for Pacific Fruit Express equipment is also included. Coverage begins with the emergence of Common Standard practices in the 1880s (1906 for PFE) and continues through 1996. All information in this volume is based on official SP and Pacific Fruit Express, car and locomotive builder documents, plans and drawings. Additional Images Questions and Answers Q: How much speed lettering is covered in this book? Are the last boxcars and gondolas ordered in 1996 covered? Thanks Asked by: Frank - 11/27/2017 A: There are only 8 pages covering the speed lettering era. Most of that is of the double-stack cars. There is only one color photograph of a boxcar with the speed lettering and no gondolas. There is one color picture of a gondola, but not with speed lettering. The pictures of the boxcar and gondola are smaller sized. Answer provided by: Randy K. Curtin (11/27/2017) Q: I model late 1960s to mid-1970s. Would this book be helpful? Thanks!
