The Order of Military Merit was a decoration of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia for military merit in three degrees and was awarded from 1951 to 1992. The Order was established by the Presidium of the National Assembly of the Federative People's Republic of Yugoslavia on December 29, 1951, and the Medal for Military Merit was established by the same decision. It was awarded — to the commanders of the units of the armed forces of the SFRY who, by their example and skill in work, develop in the unit they lead a constant enthusiasm for the achievement of the set tasks, or who created the conditions for achieving exceptionally good success in the unit-institution, or who are distinguished by such leadership and military qualities to serve as an example to others; civilian persons serving in the JNA, as well as individuals in organizations of joint work and other organizations who achieve outstanding results in the accomplishment of tasks of special immediate importance for national defense.
