Description: This unusual text was written by Marie Bernard, a recognized expert and professor of graphology, the study of handwriting. Bernard taught graphology at the City College of New York, lectured worldwide, and wrote numerous publications including a handwriting analysis of over 100 Nazi leaders. This book includes studies of unnamed patients Bernard encountered in her practice in NYC, but is primarily fascinating for its analysis of the handwriting of many historical figures associated with sexual deviancy. The term, as used by Bernard, refers primarily to homosexuality (those who practiced and those in denial), although there are some examples of sexual fetishes, phobias, etc. Individuals analyzed include D.H. Lawrence, Thomas Mann, Walt Whitman, Rimbaud, Nathaniel Hawthorne, painter John Singer Sargent, and many more prominent creative writers and artists.. Typically each analysis includes 1-2 pages of biographical information and a reference to the "deviancy", with a page where an example of the person's handwriting is shown and analyzed. As such, the book is of more interest to the average person as biography than for graphology.. For someone interested in handwriting analysis, of course, the book is very informative. Large format (9x11.5) , 408 pages with index, a very nice copy.
