Publisher's blind stamped soft green cloth boards, a little wear to the edges and corners, inner hinges starting. Covers lightly faded. Toning to the pages, though overall a nice bright copy. Illustrated with a frontispiece plate and text drawings in text. Previous owner's signature on the front endpaper (Edward Stanhope, the British Conservative Party politician who was Secretary of State for War from 1887 to 1892). Robert Main served for twenty-five years as First Assistant at the Royal Greenwich Observatory, and published numerous articles, particularly on stellar and planetary motion. The lunar crater 'Main' is named after him, and there is also a crater on Mars named in his honour. Fair: Another term for Poor or Reading Copy: Heavily worn or damaged, a poor book will be readable but not attractive.
