Description: Dr. Claude Trapp, my husbands grandfather, was an avid first edition book collector. After his death many of his collection were sold at auction at Parke-Bernet (Sotheby's) in NYC in 1949. Please see photos of catalog. Many of his Robert Louis Stevenson books were sold. He also had a collection of signatures which were not sold. Robert Louis Stevenson was a Scottish novelist, essayist, poet and travel writer. He is best known for works such as Treasure Island, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Kidnapped and A Child's Garden of Verses. Offered is one of three of Robert Louis Stevenson's signatures from a cheque from his home Vailima in Samoa. Written to his friend H.J. Moors. Harry Jay Moors (1854-1926) was an American trader in the South Seas and resident in Samoa for forty-five years. He was an intimate friend of Stevenson, and the Stevensons lived at "Pineapple House", which Moors built for his use until Vailima was finished in April 1891. The check printed by Turner and Henderson, Sydney, probably made during his 1890 or 1891 trips there. Dated June 5 1892. No. 10743 1/4" x 5"
