Description: A few years back I purchased a newspaper clipping detailing the RMS Oceanic finding the Titanic's Collaspible Lifeboat A. The boat was discovered on May 13, 1912 one month after Titanic sank. The disovery was 330 mile southwest of where Titanic foundered. It was a grisly discovery. There were three bodies in the boat. One man in evening dress, one fireman, and one seaman. All of the men had black faces and bleached white hair after being exposed to the elements for that lenth of time. The man in the evening dress was identified by the contents of his pockets, one Thomson Beattie, aged 36. beattie and his best friend Thomas McCaffry were rooming together on board Titanic in First Class cabin C-36. At the time of the sinking they were on top of the officers quarters try to launch collapsible A, which was washed off the boat deck. Apparently Beattie was able to swim to the boat before dying from hypothermia. McCaffry never made it. When officer Lowe, rearranded occupents of lifeboats in order to go back and search for survivors, he set Collapsible A, adrift with it's 3 dead occupents. When Oceanic discovered the boat, the ships doctor and two men, found the bodies in such an advanced state of decompostion that they were buried at sea. One eyewitness, Mr. Harry C, Church, who was on board Oceanic, shared his story with the paper. He claims that he sat at a able with the Doctor, and that the men in the boat had chewed cork in thier mouths.I believe that this is an embellishment, and that these men were dead when load set the boat adrift, by 5th officer Lowe. This listing is for a reprint copy of my original news clipping and a reprinted image of Collapsible A, taken by Mr. Church. The news clipping is printed on 8.5 x 11 inch, 110 lb card stock. The reprint photo is also 8.5 x 11 inches, printed on high quality, professional photographic paper.A very nice set, on an interesting event.
