Description: This auction is for a museum quality specimen of a tribal cache sex skirt from the Fali people of Northern Cameroon adorned with beads, seed pods, British West African coins, beetle exoskeletons & Cowrie shells and assembled with woven fiber. Based on the coins attached to the skirt, easily over a hundred of them, this can be dated to around 1945 since the coins range in date from 1920 - 1945 with the majority of coins dating in the mid 30s to mid 40s. Based on internet searches, this cache sex skirt can be attributed to the the Fali people of northern Cameroon. These were worn by Fall women and girls and were related to their fertility beliefs. The quality is fine for the most part with the exception where one of the large seed pods has had its beads unraveled. The skirt hangs on a metal stand that looks to be created specifically for it. The photos show the exact items you will receive. Thanks for looking and feel free to ask me questions or request additional photos
