Description: Ok this is a rare item for me in a couple ways. One I have never seen an old metal flashlight container like this before. Two I could not find any information about this item anywhere. I am guessing it's made by crescent tools and I am guessing it's American made but that's about it. It's a unique all metal screw on container to hold your old flashlight . I am unsure of the metal type this is made out of also. Personally I think this might be either for emergencies and was store either on railroad trains or possible airplanes. I did find out that this piece was made in America in Crescent City I think in New Orleans. I it's made out of copper and brass I believe. Edited from a fellow ebayer who was kind enough to give me the following information The Crescent Flashlight Container. The Military, The Federal Government and some Agencies like Fire Departments used to use these. Around Military Bases you use to see these mounted on a bracket that was very similar to the banded release brackets that held fire extinguishers. You would usually see these in storage buildings, ammunition bunkers, on Ships, and I have seen these on older Fire Trucks. I was in the Army from 1973 - 1977 and used to see these still mounted in various places. Mainly in old storage areas. In late 1977 after I got out of the army I went to work at a Military Storage Depot that stored Ammunition in under ground bunkers we called Igloos. Each Igloo had one of these mounted next to the door. They had a rubber seal around the threads on the lid, to seal it and keep it weather proof, which did not always work. LOL Like I said, these were a holdover probably from the 1940's or 50's. Flashlights weren't as water proof as today, so you needed a way to store them at locations to keep them dry. Plus you had a flashlight ready at each location when you needed it. Oh, they also used to have a tag with a date that the last time the flash light was checked and inspected for function. Back in the Early 1980's when they started upgrading some of the igloos they were removing them at the installation I was at. I believe they were a bronze or a bronze coated non magnetic metal. American Sheet Metal Works was a Louisiana Business Corporation filed on April 26, 1905. It may have gone out business in the late 1960's or Early 70's. The last info I could find on them was a couple of litigation's during the late 1960's. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YHIS INFORMATION
