Description: Here is an original Rare wooden and Silver Cane belonging to the Civil War Veteran Soldier Abner H. Edwards from Co. G 139th Illinois Infantry. The cane measures 37" long constructed from a tree branch with silver head bearing the following inscription on top, "Cut At North Bend, Ohio. / Sept. 10th 1841 / Abner Edwards / from / Samuel". This cane is from the North Bend in Ohio. This is where the 9th President (William Henry Harrison) is laid to rest in 1841. He was from Ohio; therefore, I am guessing due to the historic connection with the 9th president this was somehow a souvenir from the area given as a gift to the Civil War Veteran. The condition of the cane: small silver escutcheons at the wrist loop hole, Iron and brass tip with a soldered sheet tin sleeve extending an additional 5" from the brass, possibly representing an old repair. Overall fine untouched condition, the silver head with nice untouched patina. Please see PICs and email if you have any questions before bidding.
