Description: This work, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, is a complete PHOTO PLAY publication from the 1915 silent film adaptation of Lewis Carroll's classic novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, directed and written by W.W. Young and starring Viola Savoy as Alice. While there is no publication date on the title or copyright page, research has shown this to be published circa 1916. Alice goes with her sister to a picnic and falls asleep and starts dreaming about a wonderland full of talking animals, singing flowers, and walking playing cards. This exceptional theatrical version of Lewis Carroll's 1865 classic features a combination of live characters and puppets. Alice in Wonderland illustrates why the silent genre remains both elusive and very effective. Without having to worry about what these characters sound like (or providing realistic mouth movements), director W. W. Young and his F/X team mimic the Victorian vitriol of John Tenniel (the artist who illustrated Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass) and come up with a weird, winning combination. The movie magic employed here is just amazing, and is perfect for this whimsical story. 33 Photo illustrations taken from the movie. The book itself is in good+ condition for its age. Binding is good. All pages are present. There is no writing in the book besides a beautiful birthday inscription on the front endpaper. Some pages have minor tears that have been repaired with booktape (see photos for example). Some pages are frayed and there are some light finger marks present on some. None of these minor damages are disruptive to the text. Overall this is a very special edition that you will not come across easily! Definitely a front piece to any Alice In Wonderland collection.
