This very large ledger style book titled "Register Of Prisoners 2" contains detailed accounts of prisoners held at the County Jail of Grant County Washington from May of 1942 to October of 1948. There are thousands of hand written entries detailing the names & numbers of various inmates as well as information on what offense they were arrested for & who arrested them. A quick flip thru showed inmates being held for minor offenses such as "Cattle Stealing" and "Fishing Without A License" (10 days in Jail!) to "Sale of Liquor" to major crimes such as Robbery and Assault to Murder ("20 years to life at the State Pen At Walla Walla!) The records are extremely detailed from personal info on the inmate to the name of the officer who arrested them to the Judge who sentenced them to fines and prison sentences. It a huge book, measuring 18" x 12 3/4" and is almost 3" thick, weighing nearly 14lbs. It shows some minor wear and some discoloration to the covers, but the binding is solid and the pages bright and clean. A really fascinating read and a real piece of Washington history!
