Description: Presented today we have a near perfect example of a vintage 1969 Swiss Gruen Precision day-date UFO automatic in stainless steel. This pristine timepiece is in excellent like new condition. This reference is powered by the swiss made Gruen 790CD gilted automatic. This powerhouse movement has been fully serviced and is keeping excellent time. It is held safely and securely inside the space age designed 40mm wide without the crown and 41mm lug to lug stainless steel wide bodied case. This exquisitely finished case with its 16mm wide lugs has been fitted to its original stainless steel solid link Gruen branded bracelet making this the complete original package. This bracelet features a near perfect Gruen branded fold over clasp enclosure with micro adjustments and solid link ends. With its full link set this bracelet on the largest adjustment can comfortably fit a near 8" wrist. The case body and bracelet both boast a perfectly and softly lined flawless brushed finish. The case also features a screwdown case back. This caseback has a mirror polish circumference and softly brushed center with all case engravings clear, crisp, and legible. Having over 50yrs of life under its belt there may be a few tiny age marks present on the case and anything significant I have tried to show but as you can see it is in excellent overall condition. Under the scratch free acrylic crystal lies the like new silver dial and handset. Looking like it was made yesterday everything about this dial looks new. All print is perfectly bold and concise and the silver polished indices and handset with their black pin stripe enamel highlights still shine brightly and exhibit almost no signs of aging. The original creamy milky lume still present on the hands is about the only signs that would give away the fact this is a 55 yr old timepiece. The day and date display window is located at the 3 position and features a red and black color display. This alternating color scheme adds just that slight bit of pop to a very chromatic designed wristwatch. The day and date does have a quickset function and that is activated in the crowns 2nd position. While an extremely handy feature, it can also cause issues for novice watch collectors. So as such I feel the need to advise that the qucikset feature not to be used while the hands are showing the hours between 830pm and 3am. Simply advance the hands in time setting mode outside of this time frame and then use the quickset and then set the correct time. Using the quick set while the date mechanism is engaged during those hours can cause damage so it is advised to follow the procedure described. All in all this is one fine atomic Swiss automatic from a storied and historically significant brand.
