Description: Pearlware Commemorative New York Plate, Erie Canal Boats and Locks Border, made in Staffordshire between 1828 and 1830. 8 1/2” diameter. Impressed 12 [?] on underside. Condition: staining on back, minor rubbing on small part of rim. There are two versions of this commemorative Erie Canal plate. The first version was made during Gov. DeWitt Clinton’s tenure in office, while the second version includes the word “Late” before “Governor Of The State.” This plate is the second version. Both versions were imported and marketed by Field & Clark, a crockery firm in Utica, NY This a great piece of Americana and NY history alike
