Description: Summary: The poster is securely preserved in a plastic wrapping on top of a foam-like base, as to protect the poster from wear and aging. The dimensions below include both the poster and foam-like base combined. The folds on the poster give hints to its usage, and allow for the scrutinous collector to investigate further (if anyone needs measurements from fold to fold, please message me). The scene captured likely features someone close to a pilot, who's looking up at the plane take off. She holds in her hands goggles for flight, and the text below the picture reads: "There he goes' ', further giving way to the assumption that this is someone close to the pilot, perhaps his wife/girlfriend. The poster is signed by Zula Kenyon, adding to its value and uniqueness. The art featured on the poster is the product of Zula Kenyon, and the model is likely a local to the Illinois or Toronto area. If you're looking for a rare piece of historical artwork that captures a moment in time, this Gerlach Barklow Company calendar lithograph is the perfect addition to your collection. This calendar would especially be a good gift for anyone into the histories/industries of airplanes/flight, as this calendar was likely present inside of some flight company/insurance company. The poster is in excellent condition, with no visible signs of wear or tear. It comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home and has been carefully stored to ensure its preservation. Don't miss your chance to own this one-of-a-kind piece of art! Text on the poster: (signed) Zula Kenyon© The Gerlach-Barklow Co, Joliet, Ill.R5A "There He Goes" Kenyon code 650 If You Are Up in the Air About InsuranceSeeThe Gerlach AgencyJoliet, Ill. - Toronto, Can.Calendar of January, 1930. Condition: The poster remarkably possesses no structural damage (punctures, missing pieces, tares, etc), but does feature the previous fold lines of its original packaging. The corners of the poster remain well-intact, with the bottom right corner being folded slightly. The wear on the poster is bare-minimum, and the overall condition is wonderful! Dimensions: Length: 45.4 in, & Width: 22.45 in. History: Because the calendar features the date of January of 1930, I can comfortably assign this collectible to the year of 1930, though it was likely made earlier in 1928-29. Furthermore, because this collectible is signed by Zula Kenyon, we can comfortably put this to the range of the early 1900s. On this calendar, the two locations featured are Joliet, Illonis, and Toronto, Canada, likely both production plants. The Gerlach Barklow Company was an art calendar factory founded in 1907, which would become: "one of the biggest calendar and advertising companies in America '' (ref. 1). Located in Joliet, Illinois, the factory employed some 1,500 people around the time of its peak in the 1950s, of whom being Zula Kenyon (an artist) (ref. 1). Zula Kenyon was a trained artist from the Arts Institute of Chicago, who began exhibiting her works by 1896 (ref. 2). The Gerlach Barklow Company featured 100s of Zula Kenyon's art in their calendars (ref. 2). Many of the models featured on the Zula Kenyon designed calendars were locals to the Illinois area (and perhaps the Toronto area as well) (ref. 1). This company's success can be attributed to the demand for calendars in the workplace and at home, which subtly/boldly feature advertisements of other companies (ref. 1). Uniqueness: This calendar or poster features the art of Zula Kenyon, and features a fly girl looking into the sky as a pilot (a 'he') is flying. This is a unique poster as it features the captivation of the 1930s in the airplane industry and the action of taking flight. The uniqueness also pertains to the company Gerlach and Barklow, with value pertaining to the art of Zula Kenyon. The girl was likely a model local to the calendar factory whose appearance was paid for/volunteered to be depicted by Zula. Important: Shipping includes packaging and shipment fees.
