Description: Here is a neat old Cabinet Card Photo, from the Cook Nebraska Johnson County area (based on my research for the Schacht family members). This pictures a rural farm scene, with horse and wagons; one can be seen that is filled with corn; men and boys are sitting on the horses. In front are 5 women and girls; these are identified by writing at the top as Lydia - Emma - Louisa - Tillie (Matilda) - and Clara. The writing also states these are cornpickers at the Schacht place. The girls - women are daughters of Louis Schacht and Louise Wellman Schacht. There may be more to this photo that is first apparent. The father Louis died in 1916. So depending on the actual date of this photo, the cornpickers may be neighbors, helping the remaining family bring in the crop. There were mostly women in the family, so if after the death of the father, help from others would be greatly appreciated, and was a thing that was commonly done during that time period. An interesting example of rural customs and community events. (Or... if an earlier photo than 1916, still and excellent example of rural customs and community events, as the farmers tended to help one another as needed). I suspect the photo is around 1916. Actual photo measures ~ 6 3/4" x 4 1/2"; cardboard mounting is ~ 10" x 8". Vintage used, nice condition, names are written on top front in pencil, some stains, nice solid condition (NOTE: on back, there is a 'line' from top to bottom... it is NOT a crack, but a stain.); some corners bumped and worn.
