Description: Vintage Okinawan Shisa Dog Statue. This pair of Shisas stands at 8.5-9" and is hand made and painted. It's suspected to be from the occupation era of Okinawa's history before the reversion to Japanese control. In color it's natural grey/tan with blue, green, and brown glazing. One has its mouth open to welcome good spirits and happiness and the other with its mouth closed to scare away bad spirits and demons. These are placed outside of the entrances of homes and buildings and on top of the roofs.
