Description: Original Impressionist oil on canvas by German landscape painter Ludwig Koch-Hanau (1882-1963). A really lovely idyllic landscape of summer birches, although Koch Hanau was not affiliated with Worpswede, the painting shows a strong influence of the Worpswede landscapes of Heinrich Vogeler and Fritz Overbeck. The painting is an oil on stretched canvas and is hand signed by the artist at bottom right, it also has some illegible pencil notations (old Germanic script) on the reverse, probably identifying the location. It measures 19 x 15 1/2 inches and has a small paper tape patch on the reverse, there is a corresponding to a tiny touched up spot on the front (see last photo). Ludwig Koch-Hanau (1882-1963) was a German painter and illustrator. He was born and raised in Hanau where he studied at the Drawing Academy. He later moved to Munich to study at their prestigious School of Applied Arts and Academy. After his schooling he became a very well regarded book illustrator as well as a painter of landscapes.
