Oil painting. Emil Krause(1871-1945):”Dirt road”

Description: ARTIST: Emil Krause is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions multiple times, including famous auction houses such as Bruun Rasmussen and Bassenge. He was a popular exhibitor both at the famous Charlottenborg and internationally. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen. He went on study trips to Germany, Italy, England and even aboard one of the East Asia Company’s ships to the Orient. He was a part of a community of artists called “Dyrehavens malere” (Dyrehaven is a scenic area north of Copenhagen). To his death he supported the rights of the Danish minority in Southern Slesvig. He is very versatile and his choice of motifs include portraits, landscapes, cityscapes and genre scenes. Today many of his works are on display in various art museums across Denmark PAINTING: Oil on board. The painting is an impressionistic rendering of a dirt road winding its way between twisted trees and telephone poles. The landscape is dominated by barren fields and ditches under a gloomy, grey sky, which generates a powerful impression of late Autumn/Winter. On the back of the painting is an old auction sticker. I’ll date the painting to somewhere between 1920-1940. Signed: Monogram: “E.K” in the lower left corner. SIZE: With frame: 73 cm/28.7" * 58 cm/22.8". Without frame: 60 cm/23.6" * 45 cm/17.7". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has scratches and stains.
