Description: NORTHERN ELECTRIC / MODEL 5002 "BABY CHAMP" / AM & SW / BROWN BAKELITE CASE / WORKING Broadcast (AM) and Shortwave (SW) Mfg. 1946 Northern Electric Co. Ltd.; Montreal, QC; Belleville, ON 5 tubes, 12SA7, 12SK7, 12SQ7, 35L6GT, 35Z5GT AC/DC -set / 110 - 125 Volt. Cabinet: Brown Bakelite The radio measures aprox. 10.5 x 6.5 x 6.5 inches. I removed the chassis so you could see what shape it is in. I show you inside and out and close up so that you can see exactly the shape the radio is in before you bid get one and are disappointed. See what is available on eBay but buy this one. I think you'll agree it is a nice radio at a fair price. If you have any questions, I am glad to answer. Don't wait until the last minutes as I may not be able to get you an answer. The case is in good shape and looks very good with a nice shine to the bakelite. I found no breaks or cracks in the case. Please view all the pictures. Look closely as what you see is what you will receive. The three brown knobs are in good shape except the middle AM/SW switch knob has a chip put of the shaft. It fits tightly in the switch and works well. (See pictures) Both the tuning and the on/off volume knobs move freely. The volume works as seen in the video. The radio is as found. I believe that it has a few of the caps replaced. Again, look closely at the pictures. The antenna is a long wire type. I was able to pull in a couple of stations with the radio’s antenna. It would not receive any stations when the LED lights in my shop were on. The long wire antenna was attached to my external long wire antenna on the outside if my shop and I received both AM & SW stations. The speaker looks good. The dial face has some scratches to the paint. The dial lens is clear and dusty. It is attached to the inside of the case with three clips. One of the clips is missing. (Please look closely at the pictures.) The dial string looks good and in not slipping. The power cord is flexible and the plug was replaced. I would replace the whole thing. The radio is playing. I slowly powered it up on the variac to 110volts and was able to pull in AM stations across the dial with the help of an external long wire antenna. As the time of the day (around 3 pm) I only pulled in three or 4 SW stations. The video only shows two or possibly three SW stations. I limited the SW part of the video to make sure the video was short enough to post. The video begins on SW and then switches to AM. (Please look at the video.) It appears that most of the caps are original to the chassis but I believe that some have been replaced. The two glass tubes light up and are working as are the other metal tubes. The dial light is working The tubes and all parts are untested The radio and chassis is a bit dusty and need cleaning. The radio is as it is seen in the pictures. Please ask any questions before purchasing this radio. PLEASE READ: I have been shipping radios across the country and around the world for almost 30 years. I use new boxes and new and recycled packing materials. For this radio: I wrap the power cord in a used shopping bag to isolate it from the radio cabinet. I place the radio in a plastic bag and vacuum the air from the bag then tie it off to keep the radio safe from water, dust etc. This radio was bubble wrapped and placed in a box and packed securely with packing peanuts and the box is sealed. The box containing the radio is placed inside another outer box and is packed with packing peanuts on all four sides. The outer box is then sealed with heavy duty reinforced tape. A shipping label and “Handle with Care / Fragile / Thank You” labels attached to the top and sides of the box. I do not charge for the shipping supplies. I have paid a lot of money for a radio to have it arrive broken and the tubes falling out because someone though that by dropping it in a box with little to no packing was good enough. This radio is 78 years old. Once it is damaged or broken one cannot undo the loss. I pack the radios to arrive safely. It makes a mess when I pack them and one needs to take care when opening. So.The radio is double boxed. The outer box is 15" x 12” x 10" and weighs 9 lbs. This radio is located in and ships from Rome, Georgia 30165. Please examine the pictures closely. This is the radio you will receive. It is just as you see it. Pickup is available. SOLD AS IS, NO GUARENTEE / NO RETURNS.
