Many people think that white tigers are a separate subspecies, or even a separate sub-population of Siberian Tigers. This isn't the case, however. White tigers are not a separate subspecies. They’re not albinos. They’re not so-called "royal white tigers", nor are they "snow tigers," neither of which actually exist. Rather, white tigers are simply tigers that are born with white fur. This is an extremely rare genetic mutation that occurs very seldom in the wild, where population geneticists estimate that only about one in ten thousand tiger cubs are born with white fur.
