Description: MINTY ANTIQUE SMALL HANDMADE 4 PIECE 12 INCH FOLDING POCKET RULER MARK No. 40 MINTY CONDTION ANTIQUE DESIRABLE SMALL HANDMADE 4 PIECE 12" GERMAN SILVER FOLDING POCKET RULER MARKED No. 40 This is a high quality, minty condition, hand scrimshawed oxbone, Antique 4 section desirable small size handmade folding pocket ruler. This piece is in unused condition with all the hinges and caliper tight and stiff, as new. Unfolded once, this piece is 6 3/8”” long x 5/8” wide x 3/16” thick. Weight is 1.6 ounces or 47 grams. When first unfolded, each of the 2-piece half sections are connected by a brass rounded center section hinge with 4 short thin brass German silver supports. Each of the 4 pieces are 5/16” wide x 1/8” tall x 3 1/4” long. One side of the ruler is sectioned in 1/4” increments and the obverse side having increments of 1/16”. Both of the inside ends have 2 tiny brass pins that fit into 2 tiny holes in the adjacent middle links to secure the two sections together when folded. The center hinge and two mid-section hinges as well as the caliper and all sides of the ruler are German Silver and secured with tiny side pins. The caliper has 1/16” increments on both sides and is tight as new. This entire piece is made from German silver, including the side rails, caliper and hinges. The 2 mid hinges have a steel pin, as does the large, center hinge. There are no repairs, alterations, or cracks, with nice areas of grain and coloration. There is no warpage of the 4 legs in the open position or closed positions, with all the hinges, sections and joints tight. The metal pieces show light surface handling marks and one outside vertical edge panel that has a shadow of naturally occurring brownish aging that has been left in untouched condition. This piece is marked on one side No. 40 which appears on Stanley rulers without the Stanley name. I do not collect these, but to me, this piece looks the same, and perhaps an unmarked example or copy? Overall, very tight and in minty condition. .
