Description: GOLD SPECIMEN from LUZON, the PHILIPPINES Ruler is 1/4" wide (6 mm). U.S. 10 cent coin is 17 mm in diameter. Specimen weight: 2.6 Grams - 41 Grains (Troy) Size: 15.3X13.5X10.6 mm Most gold aficionados pause when they see some out-of-the-ordinary specimen. How many auriferous minerals have you seen from the Philippines recently? A friend who lives on the island of Luzon sent this to me. What looks like gold, thousands of fine, crystalline particles, is gold. The auriferous zone fills roughly half the rock. The true nature of the metal becomes apparent when separated from the gangue by milling. This 'grey ore' silicate seems to be some type of brecciated calcium carbonate. A closer, magnified view reveals speckles of another silvery mineral. The ore reminds me of what came from Colorado's Sunnyside Mine. For those who've kept track of my store these past several years, you'll know I don't sell low-grade, faux specimen. If it shows real gold, it can't be low grade. I sell authentic, naturally-occurring ores with visible gold and other silicate w/gold specimen. These high-grade beauties are hard-to-find and expensive to obtain. My prices aren't based on the amount of gold contained, but upon the authenticity, rarity, and collectability of these exotic rocks. U.S. SHIPPING - $4.00 (includes USPS tracking and to all U.S. destinations) INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS S&H $16.00 FAST REFUND OFFERED (If, for any reason, you're not happy with this item) I poured through old mining dumps for years looking at orange-yellow-rusty rock through a loupe, but I never found a piece with visible gold. Hydrothermal solutions carrying gold and silica crystallized into veins of gold quartz. Glimmers of hope remain, however. Few old diggings were completely worked out. Many came close, but eighteen years of prospecting 'hungry ground' taught me this much. If extensive hand work is evident, at least some of the old timers must have been making bean money. Every claim I found gold on had been worked at least once. With today's gold prices, the chance of making a those claims pay are somewhat improved. Of course, gold still has to be in the ground. A few colors doesn’t magically turn a property into a gold mine. Everyone wants ‘a little gold mine to call his own', but an unpatented claim needs to hold significant ‘locatable minerals’, in this case, gold, to be considered either valid or viable. In some cases, it takes years of prospecting to determine what’s worth hanging onto and what isn’t. That’s up to the claim-holder or lessee to figure out. The B.L.M. isn't responsible for testing unpatented claims. It’s up to prudent men and women to satisfy the prudent man test. That means extensive sampling. With respects to filing a claim in the first place, minimum legal requirements are spelled out by the 1872 mining law. Many claims don’t meet these requirements, but Uncle Gov will happily take your money in administrative claim filing fees. Lots of placer deposits are minute, confined to a single draw, wash, creek, ravine, arroyo, or pediment. Oftimes, these are situated directly beneath an isolated vein, tertiary channel, abandoned mine, or quartz outcropping. Maybe an ounce of gold remained after the old timers finished with their mining; yet, if today’s prospector can find that O, hey! That's not a bad score though not everyone will wish to spend an entire season digging for one measly ounce. Then again, maybe you would. I did and was tickled to find as much as I did. Based on experience, it's fair to say a good many mined-out claims won’t contain ten ounces of minable gold altogether. If you own mineral rights to such properties, but are determined to extract every speck, be prepared for a long stay. On a positive note, a prospector can have just as much fun mining these smaller deposits recreationally as serious miner types who require copious amounts of oro. Thanks for checking out our digs.
