Description: Maker: On the reverse of this lovely cup and saucer is the red backstamp number 33 of Theodore Haviland, one of the great Limoges firms at the turn of the last century. The mark includes the phrase "Patent Applied For". According to the third edition of the Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston, this mark was in use between 1903 and 1925. Design: Both pieces are beautifully hand painted on thin, translucent porcelain in keeping with the exceptionally high quality that made the company's goods so famous, and so coveted. Many of the great Limoges companies produced variations of this classic and hugely popular pattern of delicate pink roses against a pure white background. That means this cup and saucer would easily blend into similar sets by many other Limoges makers. And of course, it would make a beautiful display item on its own or as part of any collection of cups and saucers. Size: The cup is 3 3/4 inches in diameter at the opening and 2 inches tall. The saucer is 5 3/4 inches in diameter. Condition: The set is in excellent condition, especially considering its age and fragile material. There are no chips, cracks, nicks, stains, repairs, crazing or utensil marks. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
