QUICK FACTS REGARDING BETTAS:Bettas can live an average of 2-4 years in captivity, depending on the care they receive.They are sexually mature at 3 months and can start breeding at this age.They are physically mature at about 7-8 months. Their finnage will look full and body is thick with all their colors at this age. They can breed multiple times but will need to be conditioned approporiately in between breeding.Pointers: if a betta has full colors and good sizing, it is most likely a mature fish if not a giant type.Half-moon plakat koi (HMPK) bettas may have color and pattern changes as they mature due to their MARBLING genes. Once they reach about 1 year of age, their colors and patterns are more permanent. If they have more KOI genes, their colors and patterns are permanent younger with less changes other than vivid coloring.Purchasing a betta at a young age will give you a benefit of watching them grow and change!! *** Any betta with dragon scale genes including black/red dragons, blu rim, copper dragons, etc. may grow scales that cover their eyes partially or fully. This is a phenotype defect of their gene so does not have a cure as it will not affect their overall health. Although, it may affect their vision.
