Description: SALE! trying to downsize, if it doesn't sell, i guess i'll pack it and take it!--- i would not hesitate to call this pitcher an antique, i do feel it is one of her very early pieces-- i am a huge fan of m a hadley pottery, but i am downsizing my collection and keeping only the small items--i purchased this from a person that bought it at an estate sale of a lady that had collected hadley pottery for many, many years in louisville and owned quite a few of her early art and very early pottery pieces---she believes, as i do that this piece was painted and signed by mary hadley herself- the crazing and spotting on the piece leads me to believe that is quite old --i have added a pic (last pic) of known signatures of hers for comparison) i would not use this pitcher for liquids, because of the age, but for display only----the blue horse is my favorite--i have added what the previous owner wrote of this piece----{ the pitcher is from the estate of a native louisville collector and admirer of mary alice hadley designs--this design focusus on the wild and free horses that roamed the western states of the usa--also stated that this pitcher was made before the other early designs of farm animals and the grapes and pear-}--this was their opinoin, i have no way of knowing if this is correct----on the back of the pitcher (3rd picture) there is a patch of some very, very light blue in the glaze--i tried to get a picture of it, but it does not show up well---the pitcher has some crazing over much of it-(see pics)-to me, the crazing only adds to the beauty and uniqueness of the piece---there is a hair line crack in the glaze (6th picture) that encircles the handle near the top, but it is not a break and i just saw it myself when i was photographing-( i just read recently that someone who had her mother's pitchers from the 40's that both pitchers have hair line cracks in the glaze in the handles in the same place as mine--possibly the reason these were discontinued early on is that the weight of the pitcher probably stressed the handle and produced cracks in the glaze, also found this in the lousiville stoneware pottery pitchers)-- i looked inside the pitcher and there are what looks like numerous glaze pops, but i believe it is from the ice clanking around it--i do not think it would be safe to use for any liquid now---the size is approx 8 1/4" high and approx. 7 1/4" at the widest part----i own several small blue horse pieces that were painted and signed by her and i much prefer her painting style of the blue horse design over some others-this is a lovely vintage piece that deserves to be displayed and loved by an avid collector of her work--the pitcher is beautiful and fragile -i will pack VERY carefully-- I have an tendency to overpack anyway-the shipping will be higher that i would like it to be, but i am sure you are aware of the high shipping prices (and going up again next month) i do require signing for this piece as there are so many porch pirates around--the postage listed will not began to cover the cost, but i will cover the rest as the insurance and signing for the piece will be quite high-------thanks for looking----------i mail only to the continental usa--i reuse all mailing packaging if possible-----NO RETURNS----thanks for looking!
