Description: A wonderful hand painted oil on canvas from American artist Roberta Reynolds Parke (1862-40). This painting depicts a still life of rambling roses in a blue pottery ginger jar, its lid sitting on the table top. The painting is signed in the upper right and the reverse bears vestiges exhibition label, and an ancient price sticker, it is also inscribed "to my sister, Ida E. Pike". Nice sized piece, it measures 30 x 25 inches, with frame it is 33 1/4 x 28 1/4 inches. It is in excellent condition, although the frame and canvas both have a good deal of surface grime. Beautiful painting. Roberta Reynolds Parke (1862-48) was both an educator and artist. She studied at Oberlin College, Radcliffe College, and the University at Buffalo where she settled and taught high school for most of her adult life. Although always a talented painter, it was not until after her retirement that she received a Masters in Fine Arts at the age of 68 from Stetson University.
