Description: (Brassica oleracea) Also known as Nero di Toscana or dinosaur kale. Italian variety dating back to the eighteenth century produces long, wrinkly leaves with a distinct deep blue color. We have found that cabbage worms favor Lacinato over other kales, so organic gardeners should note that they will require a little extra attention. 60 days to harvest. Approx. 100 seeds/pkt. CULTURE: Sow indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Plant seeds 1/4" deep in pre-moistened seed starting mix. Set transplants outdoors just before the last frost, spacing plants 24" in all directions. Baby leaves can be harvested approximately one month after transplanting and mature leaves can be harvested at approximately two months. When harvesting, it is best to clip off individual leaves so the growing tip is not damaged. Plants will tolerate a good deal of frost and their flavor will sweeten with cold weather.
