Description: The Wilhelm Kralik Sohn Glass company of Czechoslovakia had a very rich history, originally founded in 1815 by Josef Meyr. Over the many years the company produced wonderful works of art, contributing to the history and art glass trade throughout the 19th century. The firm created a number of interesting styles and shapes many of which are collected today. Due to the start of World War I, many studios in this region suffered financially, at the end of the war, this region known as Bohemia as became part Czechoslovakia. One type of glass they developed and excelled was iridescent pieces. A chemical would be sprayed over the surface of the glass and refired to create a rainbow effect when held to the light. One absolutely beautiful color of this type of glass are cranberry pieces that have been Iridized. Many of these pieces were produced in the late 1800s into the early 1900s in many different colors. This particular example has an unusual swirling ridge affect completely covering the outside. The vase stands 9 3/4” tall and the base measures 3 1/4” square. Thorough examination reveals no damage or repairs, in factory original condition. I will mention and as pictured during production an ash speck lodged into the glass. I also noticed some swirling lines in the glass in the base area created during manufacturing. These issues are common with old mold blown glass and do not detract from the beauty of this wonderful example. I did notice a tiny no harm fleck on the top rim, mentioned for accuracy. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future. Thank you.
