Very scarce first edition by the first professor of library science in Göttingen University, Germany “Karl Dziatzko ( 27 January 1842 in Neustadt in Upper Silesia , 13 January 1903 in Göttingen ) was a German librarian and classical philologist . He studied from 1859 to 1863 Classical Philology in Breslau and Bonn , where he was also assistant at the University Library, the use of his academic teacher Friedrich Wilhelm Ritschl was passed. After his doctorate on the prologues of Plautus and Terence (1863) Dziatzko was first a teacher at high schools in Opole and since 1865 in Lucerne. In 1871 he became head of the Freiburg University Library and habilitated there in the same year. After a brief return to teaching in Karlsruhe, he became in 1872 Director of the University Library Wrocław , which he reorganized comprehensively. The rules drawn up by him for the new alphabetical card catalog was the model for the Prussian cataloguing rules. From 1886 until his death Dziatzko was Director of the University Library and the first holder of the newly created Department of library auxiliary sciences at the University of Göttingen, who served in particular the training for library service in the Higher Prussia. Dziatzko worked at a central point, as a consultant of Friedrich Althoff with, in the reform of science librarianship end of the 19th century. At the professionalization of librarianship profession he had by the Göttingen training role and participation in the creation of a professional association (initially as a section of the philologist Association).
